How to get from virpazar to Lake Skadar

People ask me this all the time: How to get from virpazar to Lake Skadar. The short answer is below, the honest one just after — both from what I have seen for years around Lake Skadar.

I write from Virpazar, right at the lake. No copy-paste tips from other guidebooks and no commissions bending my opinion. Just what I would tell a friend.

By car

Public transport exists but is irregular. For flexible travel, a rental car is the only stress-free option. For a fixed lake stay, a transfer is usually enough.

Off-season accommodation is affordable and family-run. In July and August book early — the good rooms go fast.

By bus

Which town works best as a base depends on how you travel. Lake-only? Virpazar. Lots of coast planned? Start from Bar or Budva.

Distances look shorter on the map than they are in reality. Budget conservatively for Montenegrin roads.
